This 1.5-day assessed course is ideal for workplace first-aiders in high-risk environments including the outdoors, or anyone wanting to build on their first aid skills.

By the end of this course, you will have the confidence to:
- Provide basic life support, including CPR and defibrillation
- Manage a foreign body airway obstruction
- Manage a life-threatening bleed, including when to use an arterial tourniquet
- Manage a person in shock
- Recognise and provide first aid treatment for common trauma and medical conditions
- Manage a person with:
- head and spinal injuries
- major injuries
- Manage first aid for:
- environmental conditions
- major incidents
- Recognise mental distress through the mental health continuum model, and understand personal resiliency strategies when managing stressors, including first aid emergencies.
Course Content
Unit standard 6402: Provide basic life support, including:
- DRSABCD action plan
- CPR (adult, child, infant)
- Defibrillator (AED) use
- Choking (adult, child, infant)
- Life-threatening bleeding, including when to use an arterial tourniquet
- Shock
Unit standard 6401: Provide first aid, including:
- Health literacy
- Fractures and dislocations
- Burns
- Soft tissues injuries
- Poisoning
- Asthma
- Diabetic emergencies
- Seizure
- Chest pain
- Stroke
- Severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis)
Unit standard 6400: Manage first aid in an emergency situation (minium of 2 people)
- Head injuries

Prerequisites & requirements
Attendees must be:
- 14 years or older
- Able to kneel on the floor to perform CPR for a minimum of two minutes
- Able to complete assessments in English (practical, written and verbal assessments are used in this course).
Please note: Day 1 is a full day starting at 8.30am and finishing at 5pm. Day 2 is a half day starting at 8.30am and finishing at 12.30pm.
