Mental Health First Aid
Our core Mental Health First Aid course will teach you the skills and knowledge to recognise and respond to someone experiencing mental distress. Whether for your workplace or community, this is the foundational course required to be a certified Mental Health First Aider.

During this course, you will:
- Engage in in-depth discussions, lessons and scenario-based activities to build your confidence
- Deveop practical tools to strengthen your own mental fitness
- Learn to recognise signs of mental distress in both non-crisis and crisis situations
- Gain the skills to provide initial support and guide someone toward professional help
- Receive a Mental Health First Aid certificate valid for two years upon completion.

- This course is ideal for anyone, whether you're a manager looking after a team, someone who works with the public, or just want to learn more about mental health and how to support others.
- This course should be completed before attending a Mental Health First Aid Refresher.

By the end of this 8.5 hour course, learners will be able to:
- Recognise mental distress and provide mental health first aid
- Understand the relationship between mental health and distress
- Understand ways to manage your own mental health
- Know and use the Listen to your HEAD Action Plan in a non-crisis and crisis situation
- Identify when a person may be experiencing a mental health crisis
- Identify agencies that can help and /or know how to get immediate assistance if necessary
- Understand the importance of self-care.
- 16 years or older
- This course has no NZQA Unit Standards. However, we recommend completing our Mental Health First Aid Refresher every two years to keep skills and knowledge current.
