This interactive 4-hour foundational workshop is for anyone wanting to build confidence in understanding mental health and talking about it in everyday life. It's designed to reduce stigma, strengthen awareness, empower participants to begin mental health conversations and foster mentally healthy cultures in their workplaces, communities, and whānau.
This workshop can be delivered for groups of up to 20 people at your location of choice. Please enquire here.
During the workshop, you will:
- Learn why talking about mental health matters
- Understand that caring for our mental health is just as important as looking after our physical health
- Build confidence to talk openly and supportively about mental well-being
- Reflect on stigma and how it impacts individuals and communities
- Discover everyday ways to promote positive mental health in yourself and others.
We also offer a Mental Health First Aid course, an Online Mental Health First Aid course, and a construction-focused Mental Health First Aid course (in-class) with our partner Site Safe.

- This workshop offers essential awareness in mental health. Those interested in further developing their skills to provide direct support and intervention are encouraged to complete the full Mental Health First Aid course to become a certified Mental Health First Aider.

By the end of this 8.5 hour course, learners will be able to:
- Recognise mental distress and provide mental health first aid
- Understand the relationship between mental health and distress
- Understand ways to manage your own mental health
- Know and use the Listen to your HEAD Action Plan in a non-crisis and crisis situation
- Identify when a person may be experiencing a mental health crisis
- Identify agencies that can help and /or know how to get immediate assistance if necessary
- Understand the importance of self-care.
- 16 years or older
- This course has no NZQA Unit Standards. However, we recommend completing our Mental Health First Aid Refresher every two years to keep skills and knowledge current.
